Senses Alive
Forests provide endless learning opportunities and are great for sensory exploration. Take your class for a visit to your local woodland and use all five senses to discover it. Senses Alive is full of suggestions to make for an action packed day.
Titillate your senses with a woodland picnic, by hugging a tree, by exploring a woodland perfume, through a colour map and finally, by making a listening map.
This lesson, Senses Alive, really encourages children to familiarise themselves with their local woodland in a way which will stay with them long after the visit is over.
This wonderful resource from the Forestry Commission includes several suggestions to extend learning once back in the classroom.
