Great Fossil Hunt
Ever wondered what it might be like to be on a great fossil hunt? How would you excavate a fossil without damaging it and how would you identify the fossil?
How is a fossil formed? In this practical science activity, Great Fossil Hunt, from the Eden Project your students create their own fossils encased within a sedimentary rock and then have the responsibility of carefully excavating and identifying each other’s fossil as they mimic the work of palaeontologists.
The lesson demonstrates how to make a fossil by modelling the process to the class in a simple and accessible way.
The question is: have your class got the skills and patience?
