Cool Currency

The Bristol Pound’s very existence was proof that bottom-up community organising works, and that together we can create a greener, fairer and stronger local economy. With our guidance, Bristol pupils made their contribution, too.

The concept of local currencies is a tricky one, the potential benefits are hard to grasp. Our lessons make the learning visual and practical, thereby tackling some of the more challenging content in Year 6 maths in an engaging way.

Accompanying the Cool Currency lessons, and to increase accessibility, we worked alongside a local school to create a wonderful short film. We think you’ll agree there are some budding bankers and journalists showcasing their talents.

Sustainable Hive really brought our hopes to engage young people with the Bristol Pound to life: their creative flair, school networks and film making capabilities were a dream.
